WHAT IS THE HIBISCUS FOUNDATION?

The Hibiscus Foundation is a non-profit organization, responsible for securing financial and other support for care and support of HIV-positive children. In the near future, the foundation's work will extend to pediatric AIDS cases at the nation's hospitals and other causes involving HIV - positive children.

The idea of the Foundation was conceptualized by Wendy Fitzwilliam, who saw the need to form a corporate entity to manage and administer donations of all types to disadvantaged children. She was motivated by the numerous offers she received from several individuals, organizations and corporations for the Cyril Ross Nursery. As a result, The Hibiscus Foundation was formed.

The Foundation was registered on September 3rd 1998, as a non-profit company under the provisions of The Companies Act 1995 and has also been approved by The Board of Inland Revenue as a charity. The Foundation also received its first contribution of $500,000.00 from the Govenment in June 1999.

The name of the Foundation was inspired by Wendy's use of the hibiscus flowers in her hair, in the last segment of the Miss Universe Pagent in Hawaii on May 12, 1998. These papery blossoms are prevalent throughout our islands and are known for their remarkable longevity. Like the flower, the Foundation will represent beauty, longevity and dedication in our charitable work with the Nursery and all in need. The Foundation's logo incorporates an outline drawing of a single red hibiscus and the initials of the foundation. It was designed by Gabby Woodham.
